How Does CGT Work for Subdivided Land in Australia?

When you subdivide land in Australia, CGT applies to each new lot as a separate asset under the ATO's rules. Your cost base includes a proportionate share of the original land's cost, plus subdivision costs. If the land was acquired before 20 September 1985, it is exempt from CGT, but post-1985 subdivisions are not.
